The Key to Long Island Fishing Charters

When conducting Long Island Fishing Charters in the Great South Bay and along the south shore there are several key factors that can make a nice day on the water, a great day on the water.

  1. Knowing where to find structure, drop-offs, and shoals.
  2. Knowing the targeted fish’s habits and annual migration paths and stop-overs
  3. Tide, Wind & Current Conditions
  4. Water Quality & Temperature

AllPro Charters brings everything to the table which makes us the best Long Island Fishing Charter the area has to offer.

Captain Vince has lived on Long Island for 45 years and have fished the south shore of Long Island from the Far Rockaways to Montauk Point.  What he has learned was not only is it important to find the fish, and to catch the fish, but to provide superior customer services.  This means to be available to discuss the charters in length, be flexible to customize the fishing charter to each client’s needs, provide the best equipment, a comfortable boat (with head/bathroom), and do the small things like providing free water and snacks.

Not all structure is the same.  The word structure is commonly used when people discuss locating fish.  But there is some structure that is better than other structure.  What you really want to do is find structure that holds bait fish aka prey.  Some structure doesn’t hold bait fish and you can be well assured that you won’t find your targeted species in that area.  Drop offs are also a key area to finding fish, but without current that drop off will likely be useless to the angler.  Most fish like to sit in a drop off with an adequate moving current that will sweep prey off of the shallows and into their target zone.  This is why run offs within the state channels are excellent areas to target when there is a moving tide.  The wind is also something to consider.  A steady and strong easterly wind would usually mean a storm front will be coming shortly.  In this case, it’s quite often that fish will hunker down and not aggressively feed.  Southerly winds and Northerly winds can have their advantages if you know how and where to fish them.  In each case the wind, accompanied with the current can force bait fish into strike zones.  Its knowing where these strikes zones are and when to fish them that makes Captain Vince a stand out when running a Long Island Fishing Charter.  Water Quality and Temperature needs to be right for the bite to happen in an aggressive manner.  Too cold or dirty, and the fish will be very picky.  Too warm and too clean may slow a bite down as well especially if you cast shadows in an area or if your tackle is clearly exposed.  In those cases, only an experienced Captain knows how to make the adjustments and how to approach a particular area to achieve success.
